Fawn McNeill Barr creates many subjects and styles. Her work includes landscapes, nature, and animals, as well as abstracts and angels. She works on location, "en plein aire" or from her photos and sketches. She also creates small paintings which her clients use to order custom paintings.
"For quite a while, palette knife paintings became the only thing I wanted to paint, especially the angels! It is exhilarating to use bold colors and thick textures -- I was honestly ruined for creating realistic works. However, I am currently devoted to creating a more realistic and detailed body of work while trying to maintain somewhat of an impressionistic style."
Fawn worked as a self taught artist for many years: creating realistic paintings and teaching small groups in galleries and private schools. Then she majored in studio art (17 years after graduating from high school), earning her BFA from Florida Atlantic University, as well as her teaching certification from the state of Florida. While teaching in the public schools, Fawn took the Daily Painters challenge to complete quality work on a daily basis. Posting an average of 4 to 5 small paintings a week, she began to explore palette knife paintings. She then started working full time from her home studio, selling her daily paintings, creating custom works, and teaching after-school classes.
